You can catch a movie at the fully restored Wellington Ritz Theatre or take in a game of bowling, racquetball, or basketball at the Wellington Activity Center (WAC), a facility that would rival most YMCA’s in larger cities. The new Fairgrounds has an indoor arena, an outdoor arena and RV hookups that attract various equine events. Wellington Aquatic Venue, (WAV), located just east of the WAC opened in June 2015, and is a must-see attraction with several features including a 32-foot-tall open flume water slide. North of town is Pioneer’s Park, a beautiful place to enjoy the scenery of The Salt Fork of the Red River, where the infamous Bonnie and Clyde plunged their car into the river and then disarmed the Sheriff and Police Chief, among other things. For hunters, Collingsworth County can compete with any county in Texas, for the deer, turkey, hogs, quail, and dove are abundant. For Golfers, Wellington Country Club is the best kept 9-hole secret in the area.
Wellington has Collingsworth General Hospital, a new inpatient and emergency department addition, as well as a new 6,891 square foot Collingsworth Family Medicine Clinic with state-of-the-art equipment. Recently completed is a new Physical Therapy wing. Also on the grounds is Park View Manor, an excellent assisted living facility, and Collingsworth Pharmacy.
This great community also offers Wellington Care Center, Collingsworth County Library, Collingsworth County Museum, and Marian Airpark. Since 1910, The Wellington Leader, now The Red River Sun, has kept the citizens of Wellington and Collingsworth County informed of local and area news.
